Haiku #4: That’s Why They Call Me Gecko

I went out on our patio early this morning to catch the sunrise and listen to nature sounds before coffee. The birds spoke in tongues, and the ocean waves happily clapped on the sand. I looked down on the cement patio and saw a gecko gazing at me. Normally geckos don’t hang around when they see humans. But this little guy seemed intrigued by me standing there, stretching my arms. It would not budge.

It made me think of a Japanese poem my brother had recited years ago. I can’t remember the poem, but the jest was about a guy/monk taking a nap and dreaming about a frog or something. And he thought maybe he was the frog dreaming about him. Fill me in, bro!

Watching gecko,

Or am I the gecko…

Watching me
